Kanu Heart Foundation N5b Specialist Cardiac Centre Fundraiser

 

The legendary footballer will hold his foundation’s fundraiser this Thursday March 14th at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. Time 5 pm.
Kanu is trying to raise $35 million (N5 billion) to build a Cardiac Specialist Hospital that will offer free surgery services for children from 1-12 years while adult patients will be highly subsidized. See more after the cut…

Nwankwo Kanu Former Super Eagles captain said the construction of the centre would facilitate the dream of its 13-year-old foundation of treating more children having heart-related problems within the country.
It is hoped that the diner will raise enough money to commence the construction of a specialist cardiac hospital in Nigeria.
Kanu has stated that President Good- luck has graciously accepted to be Special Guest of Honour at the fund raising event, while calling on well- meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies and multinationals to be part of the laudable project.
According to the Coordinator/Trustee of Kanu Heart Foundation, Onyebuchi Abia, when in full operation, the centre would save an average of 250 children and 100 adults heart patients in a one year through the free surgery initiative of the foundation. Heart patients between the ages of 0-12 will also receive free surgery treatment, while patients above 12 years old will be treated at a highly-subsidised fee. It would also save this nation about $5million annually and reduce capital flight.”
Kanu added: “The truth is that we have done 452 in all. We started from UK and it was quite expensive. On one child we have to spend between 15,000 and 20,000 pounds sterling and we are talking about the cost of operation alone. “We are not talking about flight, accommodation and feeding. We were forced to seek alternative in Israel where it is less expensive and we are able to touch more kids. All the same it is still expensive.”
He said he was touched by the plight of parents and children in the country who do not have the advantage that he has, hence his desire to bring smiles on the lips of more victims of heart-related ailments.

Impeach Jonathan Now In The Interest Of Nigerians – Senator

President Goodluck Jonathan has been decribed as lacking in capacity for governance by the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator Babajide Omoworare.
Addressing journalists at the National Assembly Complex yesterday, Omoworare (ACN, Osun East) said “the president is not doing enough.
I’ve repeatedly said on the floor of the Senate that I personally have challenges with the president’s capacity to administer Nigeria. He may be a good-natured man, but governing Nigeria takes more than being good-natured.
I’m not a fan of former President Olusegun Obasanjo who sometimes does some self-glorification, but Obasanjo, even if wrong, was taking decisions, but the incumbent president doesn’t take decisions and doesn’t even understand the rudiments of governance.
“As a senator, I don’t have light in my houses in Ife and Lagos. I know we still import fuel to favour some people…we’ve spent trillions of naira on fuel subsidy.
These trillions would’ve been used to set up refineries, whether done by the government or by individuals; it doesn’t matter to the electorate. Fuel can sell for less than N40 per litre in Nigeria if there are enough refineries,” he said.
The legislator, who called on Senators to go beyond party boundary and do what is best in the interest of Nigerians by impeaching Mr Jonathan, said, “the worst we can do to the president is impeachment.
How many PDP senators will allow you to impeach him irrespective of how bad some of us feel he is? You can’t even raise it, if you do, they (PDP senators) would shout you down. But there must be a limit to politics.

Mandela Is Losing His Memory

Mr George Bizos, Former President Nelson Mandela’s close friend and long time lawyer, has said that the memory of the 94-year-old South Africa’s political icon is fading.
He told newsmen in Johannesburg on Monday after visiting Mandela that “he was doing okay” but that his memory was not what it used to be. Bizos said that Mandela seemed to have forgotten that some of their mutual friends had died.
“Unfortunately, he sometimes forgets that one or two of them had passed on and his face is blank when you tell him that Walter Sisulu and some others are no longer with us,” he said.
Bizos said Mandela was aware of current political events but didn’t comment on them.
“If he was asked ‘What do you think about this or that issue?, his inevitable response was ‘Go ask my president’. He never wanted to second guess his successor,” Bizos said.
It would be recalled that Mandela was discharged from a Pretoria hospital on Sunday after undergoing a routine test and medical check up over the weekend.

I Slept With My Brother-In-Law By Mistake”

I had sex with my brother-in-law by mistake. In the dark I thought he was my husband.
I’m 29, my husband’s 31. His parents held a family party for his niece’s 18th birthday last weekend.
Everyone was there, including my husband’s brother who was home from working away in Saudi. He’s 36.

I woke up a couple of hours later and sat up to get a drink of water. I pulled back the curtain to let some light in through the window from the street lamp right outside the bedroom.
I looked round and got the shock of my life when I realised I was in bed with the wrong man. The man beside me was my husband’s brother. I’d gone into the wrong bedroom and I guess my brother-in-law thought it was his lucky day. We had all had a lot to drink.
I ran to the right bedroom and crawled into bed with my husband who was fast asleep. Then I realised I’d left my underwear in the other room, so I sneaked back.
My brother-in-law was stirring so I hissed that we must keep quiet about what had happened. He just said, “Whatever.”
He’s flown back to Saudi now but I don’t know whether to admit everything to my husband. If this comes out I’ll lose a man I love more than anything and cause family ructions

How 18-year-Old Girl Escaped From Ritualists’ Den

 

 

18 year-old girl, Miss Ladi Okoro who works at Mararaba, a suburb of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, must have heard tales of how people fall victims of ritualists, yet she had not experienced one until Wednesday, 6th March, 2013 when some ritualists picked her and 2 others from Mopol Junction in Mararaba, after the young girl had closed from work.
Ladi who narrated her experience in the hands of the ritualists to DailyPost said she could only remember when the driver of the red taxi that picked them from the junction stopped for them to get into the car.
According to Ladi, it was like a movie scene as she only realized she was in trouble when she woke up midnight to discover that she was not in the house but in the midst of some strange faces.
“All I remembered at that point was when I got into that car. After then, we all slept off, and the driver of the red taxi took us far into the bush. I woke up midnight to realize that I was in a strange place. We met 5 other victims, but they were all ‘dead’ asleep”.
Ladi said the moment she realized that she was at the wrong place, she began to pray alongside one of the girls who boarded the same taxi.
“When I realized that I was in the wrong place, I quickly went into meditation and prayer. I told God that it was not yet time for me to die. We both refused to sleep.
When others were sleeping, we were crying and praying. They put guns on our head and asked us to keep quiet. We were never ready to give up as we continued to pray even in silence.
Fortunately for me, they stepped out of the uncompleted building, then my phone rang. I summoned courage to speak to my people. I had told them what had happened before the conversation was cut short, as the ritualists rushed into the building to cease all our phones, warning me and the other girl to remain quiet or we would be killed.”
“However, we did not stop crying and praying. Our persistent prayers put them off balance.”
Disclosing how both of them were freed, Ladi said ” We cried and prayed till the next day, and at about 9am, the ritualists had a brief meeting and threw our bags out of the building.
We walked round the bush, trying to trace our way back to town.
However, we came out at one express way, where we discovered that we had gone far into Kefi forest. We were helped by some good Nigerians.
A young boy who claimed he knew where the ritualists operate had volunteered to take the police to the uncompleted building. Though, we didn’t go with them again, we were told that the men had vacated the building before the police got there.”
Speaking on the fate of the other six they left at the place, Ladi said “I really pity them. They didn’t even know what was happening. They were deeasleep. Now that the police said they have vacated the uncompleted building, I really don’t know what must have happened to them. They could be killed.
I just pray nothing happens to them.”
Among the other six victims, Ladi said they were 4 young women and 2 young men.
When DailyPost visited one of the police stations around Kefi, in Nasarawa state, the police disclosed that they were told about the incident, and efforts were on top gear to rescue the remaining victims.
Ladi has since been reunited with her family after they had suffered much trauma

Another Student Killed as LASU Cult war Gets Bloodier.

Barely one week after Damino Damoche, the final year student of the Lagos State University, Ojo, was killed by suspected cultists in front of the institution’s gate, another student was Thursday, murdered by suspected cultists on reprisal attack.
Although the deceased identified as Karim Abiodun, was reportedly not a student of LASU, but he was alleged to be a member of Buccaneer confraternity, whose members were said to be at war with members of the Eiye confraternity.
Report said the cultists stormed Karim’s home located on Afolabi street around PPL in Okokomaiko area at about 4a.m yesterday, from where he was chased to Peoples bus-stop around Ajagbandi and shot dead.
The late Karim, a second year student of Economic Education at the Lagos State College of Education, LACOED, would be the second person to be killed during reprisal attacks by warring cultists since the death of Damoche.
The first person shot dead, was identified simply as Kabiru. He was reportedly killed in the presence of his mother and siblings at their Abeokuta street home, also around PPL, Sunday night.
The Police as gathered, have arrested a member of a vigilante group in the area in connection with yesterday’s killing.
The suspect whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, reportedly admitted to have seen when the late Karim was being chased. He was also said to have identified one of the assailants .
Meantime, students of other institutions living around PPL have vacated their homes for fear of same fate befalling them.
Following the recent development, President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union, Comrade Ibrahim Agomeji, has advised students to vacate off-campus hostels within PPL, Iba, Casidi, Franklass and Igbo-elerin..
According to him: “This became imperative as the lives and properties of students are no longer secured in these off-campus hostels around the university. It is beyond the powers of the university to provide you with security in your various off-campus hostels. Since the Police and the relevant authorities have failed to do this, I advise you return home to your parents, thereby coming to school from your various homes”, he said

A 19-year-old boy, Felix Inia and his 16-year-old brother, Stanley are now cooling their heels at the headquarters of the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, for allegedly defiling their six-year-old stepsister, Precious Kankamor. The incident, which eventually led to the death of the victim, occurred at Ogbe-Ijoh community, Warri South Local Government Area of the state. The suspects were said to have had carnal knowledge of the minor by forcefully penetrating her, which led to severe injuries in the victim’s private part.
Besides the injuries sustained after the alleged sexual abuse, little Miss Precious later developed protruding stomach, leading to medical complications that eventually cut short the life of the victim. Investigation revealed that the suspects’ mother got married to the father of the deceased after her first marriage ended with the death of Mr. Inia. The now embattled mother moved into her new marriage with her teenage sons, who unsuspecting, had eyes on little Miss Precious immediately they stepped into their new home.
They allegedly carried out their ignoble mission last month when they were left with the victim at home while others had gone out for the day’s activities. According to a police source, the younger Inia, Stanley, allegedly lured his elder brother, Felix, into the act. “The younger brother said he sold the idea to his elder brother. He (Stanley) assured his brother that there was nothing to be afraid of and that he (Stanley) had been doing it with other children in the area,” the source told Daily Sun. Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Famous Ajieh, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that they would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
Ajieh said the command was also investigating four suspects who were arrested during a raid on suspected criminal hideouts in Kwale in which one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and nine live cartridges were recovered. Besides, Ajieh stated that the command’s special patrol team code-named Dragon 11 also attached to Kwale axis, while on routine patrol, intercepted two men on motorcycle who had in their possession one brownie pistol with tempered breech number. According to him, one of the suspects, Chukwudi Nwafor has admitted ownership of the firearm, which he claimed he bought in Jos, adding, however, that the matter was still under investigation.

According to a report released last weekend by American lifestyle magazine, Vanity Fair, Nigerian oil Tycoon, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija owns five apartments in London’s One Hyde Park, the world’s most expensive apartment block.
Vanity Fair in their report wrote that Mrs Alakija owns five apartments in the 6,000 pounds-per-square-feet apartment block which she bought at a combined fee of $123 million (N18.4billion), making her the second highest property owner in the upmarket area after Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine’s richest man and owner of Ukranian football club, Shaktar Donesk, whose property is valued at $215.9 million.
Others who own property at One Hyde Park include some of the richest men in Britain, Russia, Taiwan, sheiks from UAE, Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend Vladislav Doronin also owns an apartment there.
According to the investigation by tax haven expert, Nicholas Shaxton, who wrote the report for Vanity Fair, just 17 of the 76 sold apartments are primary residences. Because the property owners are so wealthy, many of them have other homes and do not use their exclusive Hyde Park address as their permanent home. Shaxton also revealed that many of the owners use offshore companies to buy the homes to enable them hide their identity.

When asked if she could date a married man, her response was:
“Well, it is frustrating. It can be tempting sometimes when you meet married men who are really very charming especially, when you have dated a single guy who is very annoying. You run into a married man who is good looking and experienced, you would be tempted to fall in love with him.
But for me, I will always think of how dating a married man will affect people’s perception about me. Afterall, I am not going to marry the person but I’m more concerned about what people are going to say. I also considered how that thing will affect my relationship with God. Rape now attracts life imprisonment in Nigeria

 

The House of Representatives yesterday Tuesday March 5th approved life imprisonment for any person convicted of rape. They also approved a minimum of 20 years without an option of fine for persons convicted of gang raping someone.
The bill, which was sponsored by Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also approved 25 years imprisonment for any person who attempted to use chemical, biological or any harmful liquid on another person. (e.g pouring acid on anyone).
The bill also approved 4 years in jail or a fine not more than N200,000 or both for any person convicted of performing female circumcision and general mutilation or engaging someone to carry it out. Aiding female circumcision attracts N100, 000 or two years in jail or both

I Caught My Wife Having Sexual Intercourse In Her Shop With Another Man” – Husband Tells Abuja Court

A Nigerian who accused his wife of alleged adultery, on Wednesday told a Gwagwalada Upper Area Court in Abuja that she denied him sex for over a year, while having an affair with another man.
Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, who was led in evidence by the police prosecutor, Insp. Martha Paul, told the court that he caught his wife, Fatima, “red-handed” in bed with her lover on 5 January.
“I caught my wife, Fatima at about 2 a.m. having sexual intercourse in her shop with one Nafiu Danaya, also a resident of Sharp Corner, Gwagwalada.
“This has been going on for quite some time now and I have been praying about it. At 2 a.m. I went to visit my wife. I was disappointed when I saw her naked and a male trouser and shirt on the ground beside her. She was shocked when she saw me and implored me to forgive her, promising never to repeat such again.
“She begged me not to allow other people to know about it and I agreed, but told her that her parents must know about it,’’ Bala said.
The witness said that Fatima also pleaded that her lover’s (Danaya) clothes be given back to him.
“I did not give her the clothes directly but rather gave it to her younger sister,” he said.
Bala said that he moved her out of the rented apartment to another location, but discovered that she was still having an affair with Danaya.
He said that he reported Danaya to the police in Gwagwalada and that even while the matter was in court his wife was still having an affair with the Danaya.
The Judge, Alhaji Babangida Hassan, adjourned the case to April 29 for continuation of testimony.
“Having listened to the testimony of the nominal complainant, the court hereby adjourns the matter to April 29 for continuation of hearing,” he said.

My Mother Sold Akara To Train Me – Actor, Emeka Ike

Nollywood actor and factional president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Ike, was a special guest of V Channel, a new pay television in Lagos, last Friday.
The actor had arrived in the studio of the TV station in the Ogba area in company with fellow actor and host of the Gulder Ultimate Search reality show, Chidi Mokeme, and the president of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima.
Occasionally, Ike squirmed with discomfort, especially when he was asked questions that appeared to probe a little too deep into his private life. But the occasion afforded him the opportunity to address some issues concerning his constituency, the Nigerian movie industry.
When asked to relate his experience as a factional president of the AGN, Ike let loose a canon. “I really don’t care about the AGN because it cannot put food on my table or pay my bills,” he said.
Yet, for the benefit of those who felt he had ‘gate-crashed’ into the body, he tried to set the records straight.
“I was actually invited into the fold by members of the then Board of Trustees of the AGN to solve the problems of the body. At the time, they told me that the problem was Ejike Asiegbu. They said he had been in charge for too long and had refused to leave. There was even a case pending in court.
“So, since I believe in the rule of law, I decided to get involved. At the end of the day, I discovered that the same people in the board of trustees, who had invited me to take over, were the problem of the AGN. They were not more than five people. But the way they ran the board, it meant that they determined what happened in the movie industry.
“I had to take the bull by the horns. I decided that those five people must leave the AGN or nobody else would have a place in the industry,” he said.
Eager to shake off the ‘bad boy’ image that had stuck to him ever since his career kicked off, he went on to correct certain notions that most movie fans have about him.
“Some people think that I am a trouble maker. They think I am a bad boy in the movie industry. But that is not who I am. I hate injustice and I fight for the oppressed whenever I can. I will give you an illustration.
“One day, I was passing by Oshodi Bridge when I saw a physically challenged person struggling with a policeman. I had to pull over immediately and confront the policeman, though he was armed. I succeeded in stopping the fight. This is the kind of things I do.
“I believe in hard work. I don’t date rich women for money. I believe that you can become a millionaire by selling akara. My mother sold akara to train me and I am a millionaire today,” he said.
The actor, who wants to be remembered for his humanitarian deeds, would like to see Nollywood witness a radical shift in terms of the language of production. He wants films to be produced in indigenous languages and actors to be proud of their cultural heritage.
“We should be making more films in Igbo, Yoruba, Itsekiri, Efik and other Nigerian languages. I don’t like it when we speak English all the time and try to imitate the American accent,” he said.
